Part two of the week for Newcastle United focusses on the Women’s team, Academy and NFTV Focused non-league sides.

It was another afternoon of frustration for the lasses as we drew 1-1 with bottom of the league Ipswich town Women. We started the game positively and Beth Lumsden scored with an outstanding goal on her 50th appearance for the club. I know I put it in the live updates that was an audacious shot, but I think she was just trying to put the ball in a dangerous area.
The lasses dominated the play but were sucker punched in first half stoppage time when Ipswich scored with a neat but of play and a good finish. The second half was far less positive as we couldn’t break down a stubborn Ipswich and credit to them, they came to do a job and got the point they came for. In fact, had it not been for a massive save from
Anna Tamminen (“Waka Wake Eh Eh) we could have been beaten for the third time in 2026.
The frustrating draw leaves us 6 points adrift of the play off place and 8 behind Birmingham in 2nd.
I asked Josh from NFTV and Toon army Philly
“Where do you think things stand with the lasses’ promotion push and can we still do it?

“The season of the lasses, in many ways is kind of like the men’s team season with the inconsistencies. Is promotion is still the on the cards? Obviously, that’s very important to the ownership and pretty much why Becky was fired, despite many thinking it was possibly a bit harsh. Do I think it’s possible, yes, mathematically were only 6 points back on 3rd place and there’s 9 games to be played. That’s 27 points still on the table so when you look it from that perspective it’s possible. Also, It’s still quite likely teams will drop points, just like we have dropped point’s when we shouldn’t of.
Do I think it will happen? It’s hard to feel confident right now, especially after drawing with Ipswich. So, to answer the Question posed, I don’t think it will happen but yes, it is possible. Our home form hasn’t been great this season and will need to improve. What else do I think needs to happen to make Promotion happen. We need someone to be more ruthless and grab games by the scruff of the neck. I feel like since we parted ways with Bridget Galloway, we haven’t had someone who just puts the ball away at will. That might not be a fair comparison because it was a couple of seasons and leagues ago, but the point made is we need someone within the squad to step up and start going on one of those runs of putting the ball in the back of the net.

As Josh said there are still 27 points to play for starting away at Southampton this Sunday, but we will have to be near perfect and most importantly take points from those above us. Games against Southampton are always tough ones for the lasses, and I expect the game at St Mary’s this Sunday to be no different. We also play Portsmouth at home a week later which will be a very interesting game to watch and to see if we can learn from the Ipswich game because with Portsmouth fighting for their lives and for every point I expect they will set up in a similar way to Ipswich.

The lasses have been active in the Transfer window and completed a deadline day signing (The 4th of the window) with the addition of Simone Charley who arrived after her departure from Orlando Pride. Kaityln Torpey has started both games since her arrival but for the other three time will tell whether or not these players can impact our promotion push.
The Quarter Finals await for North Shields

NFTV Focussed side North Shields are back in cup action as they head to Coventry United in the last 16 of the FA Vase as they look to keep the dream alive of reaching Wembley again and lifting the trophy as they did in 2015.
It seems that North Shields and Coventry United already have some history in cup competitions. (Thank you to Joe for sending this piece of trivia to me because is interesting coincidence.)
In the 1968/69 season North Shields won the FA Amateur Cup and one of the teams they beat along the way were Coventry Amateurs. That will be the same team who North Shields play on Saturday all be it under the new name of Coventry United. (4 names in just over 50 years. It was also a game that North Shields didn’t play in their normal Colours and borrowed a black and white strip from Newcastle United making sure to wash them before handing them back.

Could the stars be aligning again for North Shields to win another trophy. Coventry United will not be easy opposition as they sit 5th in their league pushing for a play off and have won 10 out of the last 12 games in all competitions. They also have two players in the top 6 goal scorers for their league.

Good Luck to North Shields on Saturday and look out for Joe’s Vlog over the weekend as he travel’s down with the team and hopefully can take another massive step to Wembley.

Ryton and Crawcrook also play this Saturday away at Newcastle University hoping to keep their own play off push alive. Ryton currently sit in ninth in the table, 6 points off the play offs and hopefully a well-schooled win brings a degree of optimism going into the final stretch of the season.
Ryton and Crawcrook sit in the league below North Shields and if Ryton could go on a run and get promoted it could see the prospect of the NFTV derby next season. (Cue broadcast bidding war)
And in the nothing to do with Northern Football section of the non-League round up Cirencester Town are away to Corsham Town in a 5th vs 6th Battle as Ciren push for the play offs. The last 10 games of the season for the centurions see us play 5 games against the current top 5 so if Ciren do reach the play offs would have been well earned.
The Academy
Both the Under 21s and Under 18s are back in action this weekend. The under 18s look to get their season back on track following a stuttering start to 2026. They are at home to Wolves on Saturday morning. For the under 21s it is another Friday night fixture as they travel to Aston Villa under 21s.
