🌍 Newcastle United Players on International Duty: November Break Recap

The latest international window brought mixed fortunes for Newcastle United’s stars across senior and youth levels. From standout performances in Germany to setbacks for Italy and Sweden, here’s how the Magpies fared.


🇧🇷 Brazil

Joelinton: Missed out on selection after a poor run of form.

Bruno Guimarães: Played the full 90 minutes at the Emirates as Brazil beat Senegal 2-0. He started again in Lille against Tunisia, lasting just under an hour in a 1-1 draw.


🇸🇪 Sweden

Anthony Elanga: Sweden’s struggles continued under Graham Potter, losing 4-1 to Switzerland. Elanga played 78 minutes on the left wing and registered an assist. He later left camp for private reasons, returning to Tyneside.

Emil Krafth: A late call-up, unused against Switzerland but started in the 1-1 draw with Slovenia, playing 65 minutes.

🇩🇪 Germany

Nick Woltemade: The breakout star of the window. Scored both goals in Germany’s 2-0 win over Luxembourg, then added another in a 6-0 thrashing of Slovakia. He now has 10 goals this season for club and country, earning plaudits nationwide.

Malick Thiaw: Came off the bench late against Luxembourg and played 26 minutes against Martin Dubravka's Slovakia. Germany have officially qualified for the World Cup.


🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England

Anthony Gordon & Nick Pope: Both withdrew from the squad.

Dan Burn: Sat out the 2-0 win over Serbia at Wembley but played the full 90 in Albania as England won 2-0 again. England remain defensively flawless in qualifiers and look a major threat heading into the World Cup.


🇮🇹 Italy

Sandro Tonali: Played the full 90 in Moldova as Italy snatched a late win. Missed the second game due to fitness concerns, where Italy were hammered 4-1 by Norway. Italy now face the playoffs once more in order to qualify for the World Cup.


🇱🇾 Libya

Mo Waddani: The talented winger, freshly turned 18, was called up to Libya’s squad. They edged Mauritania 1-0 in a friendly. Information remains scarce, but his rise through youth levels is notable.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England U21

Lewis Miley & Lewis Hall: Both started in the 2-0 win over Ireland, with Hall winning a penalty. In the 4-0 victory over Slovakia, both came off the bench to feature for under half an hour (Hall) and 22 minutes (Miley) respectively.


🇮🇪 Ireland U21

Alex Murphy: On the bench for Ireland against England, he later played 45 minutes in an embarrasing 4-0 away defeat to Andorra.


🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England U19

Leo Shahar: Missed the opener against Lithuania but played the full 90 in a 7-0 demolition of Latvia. Came on for 21 minutes in the 4-0 win over Scotland. All matches were staged in Lithuania.


🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England U17

Roman Dowell: Unused in the first two games (5-2 win vs USA, 1-1 vs Ivory Coast). Played the full 90 in a 1-1 draw with Australia. Still only 15, turning 16 soon.


🇮🇪 Ireland U17

Rory Finnernan: The Newcastle midfielder captained Ireland in their 3-1 defeat to Switzerland in Doha, bowing out in the last 16 of the World Cup.


This international break showcased the breadth of Newcastle’s influence across senior and youth football. Woltemade’s rise in Germany was the headline, while Bruno continued to be a fixture for Brazil. England’s defensive solidity bodes well, but Italy and Sweden face uphill battles. Meanwhile, the academy talents continue to gain invaluable experience on the global stage.
