Newcastle look set to complete the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for a deal worth a reported 55 million pounds.
The exciting winger will provide much needed competition on the wing, especially on the right-hand side for Jacob Murphy.
Last season Elanga notched up 11 Assists in the premier league only behind Salah and are very own Jacob Murphy in the assist standings, also adding 6 goals to his goal contributions in what was a brilliant season for Nottingham Forest as they returned to European football.
Stacking up against our Wingers
(Stats from Sky Through OPTA)
24/25 Premier League Season | Elanga | Gordon | Murphy | Barnes |
Appearances | 38 | 34 | 35 | 33 |
Goals | 6 | 6 | 8 | 9 |
Assists | 11 | 5 | 12 | 4 |
Chances Created | 50 | 51 | 42 | 26 |
Fast Breaks | 14 | 7 | 6 | 8 |
What I think they stats show is that we will have no shortage of chances created and with the elite finishing of Isak up front, as well as the goal contributions of our wingers it could be a very potent season at the top end of the pitch.
The other interesting stat for me from those details is the fast breaks. The quality of passion that we have in midfield, with Bruno and Sandro will be able to release Elanga and our fullbacks on the counter and hopefully be able to give us that extra threat in the scrappy and tighter games next season.
Elanga is also a Swedish international and made his debut for his nation in March 2022 at age 19. He has made 22 appearances and scored 4 times for his country and linking up with Isak for both club and country may well be a big positive for us next season.
There will be a question about the 55 million transfer fee, similar to a worry I had about Gordon when he signed for us. However, Eddie Howe has a proven record improving players of all levels and I am fully confident that it will be the same for Elanga. Having that competition on the right Wing will be a good thing and his connection with Isak links with other players in the squad will help him fit in to squad quickly before we go on our pre season of tour of Asia.
Waiting for the complete confirmation of course but will go out on a limb and say,
Welcome to Newcastle Anthony Elanga
