An unreal performance and result in the Champions League

I am writing this about an hour after the final whistle, and I am still buzzing about the result but even more about the performance. We came onto the pitch and showed we were the favourites for this game and showed we had the better squad, not just the team but the squad because our players and the subs who came on were outstanding throughout.
The 1st goal was positive for a couple of reasons. Woltemade with a proper striker’s instinct to get a touch on the ball but also Tonali taking that shot on 1st time is something we hope can see more of so was happy with that goal all round.
Our second goal was all about Elanga, he drove into the box won the penalty and it was put away by Gordon. Elanga had his best game for us by some distance, and I think this could be his “Arrival” game in a Newcastle shirt. The game was sealed with another penalty for Gordon. Was a bit of a harsh handball but the way things are in the Champions League it was the right decision.
The 4th and final goal was a great team goal finished off with a good pass from Osula through to Harvey Barnes and a solid finish from Barnes and took the chance to score giving Eddie howe some interesting selection choices for Forest at the weekend.
It was a quality performance from all the players but also Eddie Howe with the team selection and subs because everything was spot on. Joelinton coming off when he did was the right time and the other subs we made did not unsettle our momentum and as someone in the watch a long chat said was a big win for the squad.
Another Gut Busting defeat at home against a title Challenger

Another late stoppage time goal meant that we suffered defeat at home to another of the title favourites. If I’m honest I would say that Arsenal did deserve the win but the manor in which it came would be the frustrating part.
Nick Pope kept us in the game in the first half continuing his solid performances in the early part of the season, but Arsenal’s winner can be attributed to his decision making. His poor distribution leading to the corner that Arsenal scored from again a situation where he should have been stronger. Many, myself included do think that Ramsdale will be our number one by the end of the season, but Pope is still doing enough to keep his spot but there is very little wiggle room for him to make mistakes even less than there normally is for a keeper.
Tino Livramento left the field with a nasty injury that reports say could see him out for 6-8 weeks in a massive blow for us. He has been and normally is one of our most consistent players and now puts extra pressure on Lewis Hall to reach full fitness in to take back that left side position. The positive on the timing is the injury may have came at a time where part of the spell will be during the October and November international breaks.
No Winning Feeling at the GIS (Yet)

Newcastle United Women suffered the 3rd defeat of the week losing 1-0 Charlton Athletic.
There were plenty of positives to take from our performance which was a vast improvement from the Sheffield United game. We hit the bar a couple of times during the game, Jasmine McQuade and Jordon Nobbs were very good in midfield, especially in the 1st half and the passing and chance creation seemed to be more free flowing than the previous two league matches. Femke was in goal for the 3rd straight match which seems to be a permanent change (Watch Claudia start against Palace now I have said that) and other than the penalty wasn’t really tested from what I can recall.
The Referee didn’t have a great game that has to be said but credit to Charlton they seem to be one of those teams that know how to get a result against as regardless of how we play. The return game at the Valley is my birthday game (5 days after) so hoping we can shift the “Bournemouth” like effect Charlton have on the lasses in that game and Sophie Whitehouse doesn’t have another worldly.

The lasses head to Sutton this Sunday to face Crystal Palace who themselves have had a stuttering start to the season following relegation. I do think we need to win at least one of these games, so we don’t lose too much ground on the play off positions early. That being said we have also got on paper our 2 hardest away games out of the way. I will keep going back to my “Point exchange” phrase because that will continue to happen and happened again at the weekend and shows the competitive of the league. We will hit a run of form, I have no doubt about that but when we hit that purple patch will be equally as important as the results themselves.
Academy

Another week of tough results for our academy team’s. The under 21s did manage to get a draw away at Reading but saw Sean Neave sent off for a second yellow in what I presume was the same incident as Reading also went down to ten men. Pivas was able to score the goal to pick up Newcastle’s 2nd point of the season but were still waiting for our 1st League win. Tottenham will be the visitors this weekend who currently sit 3rd in Premier League 2 so it will be tough ask for us in this game especially with the Sean Neave suspension (I’m presuming) I will be interested to see if Kacey Wooster start’s up front for the U21s this Sunday considering his early Goalscoring form for the Under 18s.

Newcastle U18s suffered their 1st defeat of the season losing 3-1 to Stoke City with Alfie Seldon’s goal turning out to be a consolation. The U18s will turn their attention to a Premier League Cup fixture this Saturday Looking to make it 2/2 in that competition before returning to a League match away to Sunderland on October 18th

We then went into our 2nd UFEA Youth game match with Union SG but unfortunately the damage was done by half team, and we suffered our 2nd defeat of the competition losing 2-0. The stats for the game suggest it was a tight game but obviously without seeing the game I only have the stats to go on.
The U21s play in the National League cup this week a game I will be able to watch on YT so that game will be one of the main focuses of next Weeks writing.

The Lasses U21s got their 1st point of the season with a 4-4 Draw against Sheffield United and was able to get a bonus point with a penalty shoot out win. Great to See Chapman back in the Squad as well.
