“You put your left foot forward, your right foot back, your right foot forward and your left foot back, we finally win away but then we draw at home, that’s where were currently at.”

Let’s start with the positive, Saturday’s performance against Everton was brilliant. We came flying out of the blocks and at no point in that game did I ever feel uncomfortable. Of course we were 3-0 up at half time so why would I but even when it was 1-0 I had the sense of “You know what today is the day” Lewis Miley was outstanding in midfield Thaiw is showing early signs of being pound for pound, one of our best signings since the takeover and Woltemade scored again with an audacious finish. It was a complete performance, highlighted our squad depth in certain positions and finally got rid of the no away win since last season headline news.

So, I go into the week thinking, No Champions League or cup games this week, all premier league so chance to really build up some steam and rise to the top half. We have a good record against Spurs, who are not in great form and Burnley at home should be as close to a banker in the premier league as we can get.
The line up came out with a few changes, Miley kept his place, Ramsdale will get his opportunity now with Pope’s injury and Bruno was given a rest which I have no problem with.

The first half was dreadful from a viewing point of view. I don’t know it was because I was tired myself or the game, but it was an awful first half. Spurs sucked the life out of the game. Similar to the Villa and Leeds draws we slightly edged it but no one really took control in the first half.
Bruno came on at half time and that seemed to lift proceedings and scored just after 70 minutes to give us the lead with a cool finish. Spurs scored to equalise 7 minutes later through Romero but around 7 minutes after that we were given a penalty and a chance to take the win in a bitty game. For me it wasn’t a penalty, and I said as much in a group chat at the time but when it come’s to Newcastle we take it and Gordon slotted away with no drama. We had the lead just had to navigate the latter stages and 9 minutes stoppage time. The measure of teams with lofty ambitions is how we navigate these periods.
However, we couldn’t see the game out and Romero scored with a Bicycle kick that any striker would be proud of but the defending for that goal was awful. It seemed to trickle through the box in slow motion, and the game ended 2-2.
We dropped more late points and these point’s we keep dropping in stoppage time could be a hindsight gut buster come the end of the season. Just off the top of my head Spurs, Arsenal Liverpool all goals conceded in stoppage time and all three games at home. That would have been five extra points and at the point of writing, 5 points separate 3rd and 14th. That’s the fine lines that the premier league is currently operating under. On the flip side of that it also shows how valuable three-win game week could have been in the context of the season.
7 points from 9 would still be a good return for the 7-day period but anything less than that would feel negative in my opinion and only increase the pressure and all the rumour noise that surrounds it. The Burnley game is the full focus now, don’t worry about the Champions League or our next away game, get the three points and move on.
Huge Game for the U18s this weekend.

Newcastle United U18s came back from their Mini break with an emphatic 5-0 win over Derby to set up a potentially season defining clash this Saturday.
It was the Sam Pinnington and Kacey Wooster show as they contributed to three goals and four assists between them with Seldon and Ferreria scoring the other two goals.

This sets up a 2nd Vs 3rd Clash with Manchester United U18s on Saturday and a chance to go 5 points clear of 3rd with a game in hand. I know that game is available on MUTV but I’m not giving them money so hopefully I can find it to watch elsewhere.

Obviously, the academy is about developing and nurturing the players as they embark on their careers but can also be used as a measuring stick to where we are heading with the club’s growth. In my first ever article on the NFTV Website, I spoke about the growth and how follow that growth. Reading that article back and actively monitoring the results of our U18s side we can see that the upward trajectory is set to continue.

Newcastle United Women ready for the next Chapter

The Tayna Oxtoby kicks off this Monday with a home game against Southampton and potentially a chance to put some distance between us and lower midtable. I attended a fan event on Monday and both Tanya and Grace Williams spoke very well about the ambition and focus for where the lasses are heading. Monday will be a big game for us under the lights, but I am very much looking forward to seeing how we line/set up and hope that we keep our recent league unbeaten run intact.
The draw for the FA Cup has also taken place and we play a familiar foe for those who followed the Lasses in the lower tier. Liverpool Feds will come to the GIS on Sunday 14th December in a lunchtime kick off. Unfortunately, I won’t be at the game as I had to choose between the cup game and the Portsmouth game (In the interest of my Marriage) so I’m hoping the game will be shown on the Newcastle App/Website again.
The lasses away on international duty will return this week including Freya Gregory and Oona Sevenius who scored for Finland and got player of the match in their 1-1 draw with Belgium.
