The Under 21s Season So Far

Premier League 2 Full Table
Premier League 2 Full Table

The Under 21s got their 1st league win of the season against Crystal Palace this past Monday but this season has had more low points than high as far as results go. Of course, we want to see our academy team succeeding with wins and points on the board but it’s more important that the players are developing and getting plenty of football. This is just a basic look the under 21s results on the pitch and the stats of the players. I am reliant on stats from Flashscores, the games I have been able to watch which is mostly in the cup and any videos that NFTV have put out.

The Results

The Under 21s have performed much better in the cup competitions (UFEA Youth League aside) and considering those games are against men’s sides as opposed to academy teams is something we can applaud. The League form hasn’t been great but as I mentioned at the beginning it is all about development and getting as much experience across football pyramid as possible. We are still in a position to Qualify in both the national League cup and the EFL Trophy (If we win and Huddersfield fail to win)

Goalkeepers

ree

As you can see there is plenty of Rotation when it comes to the Goalkeepers in our youth team. The only one I can really comment on is James Taylor, and I think looked pretty decent in the games I have watched him start in for the cup but also his other two registered results he started were a draw and a narrow defeat.

Defenders

ree

Cathal Heffernan, Dylan Charlton and Charlie McArthur have got the most minutes across the season so far. There would be a question mark over McArthur with 5 yellow cards in 9 appearances but then again, we have Joelinton who does like a yellow too so suppose I am reading a bit too much into that. Leo Shahar has played well in some of the games I have been able to watch and do wonder if a loan move could be on the cards for him in January

Midfielders

ree

The standout player for the midfielders and the whole squad is Sean Neave. Seven goals and 2 assists in all competitions is a great return and, in the games, I have seen he is a level above a the rest of the squad and we can see why he could be the next name that pushes his way into the first team squad at the very least. Seung-Soo was a player who people were very excited about following some of his performances in pre-season. He had a slow start for the under 21s but in the games at Boston and Mansfield the commentators were very impressed with his creative play and he got his is second assist of the season against Palace on Monday.

Strikers

ree

On the face of it our strikers look like they are struggling for goals but as you can see by the minutes, they may not be getting much time to impact games with goals and assists.

Under 18s

ree

The Under 18s have had a solid start to the season sitting in the top six of the Under 18s Premier League North Table. It is likely that some players would be appearing for both the Academy sides and although I do not have access to as detailed stats, I can see who has been scoring goals in the league.

Kacey Wooster has 3 goals and 1 assist.

Mohamed Waddani has 1 Goal 2 Assists

Alfie Huchinson 2 Goals 2 Assists

Sam Alabi 2 Goals 2 assists

Matheos Ferreira 2 Assists

Alfie Seldon 2 Goals 1 Assist

Under 21 Players Out on Loan

Aiden Harris has been loaned to Northern Irish Premier League side Coleraine and what a season he is having. They sit top of the league and Harris has played every game.

Trevan Sanusi is on Loan at Lorient and unfortunately hasn’t featured for them yet. I wonder if he may get recalled in January. Travis Hernes is on loan at Groningen but unfortunately hasn’t featured for them yet but has been on the bench.

Round Up

it has been a mixed season for our youth sides but with the addition of European football as well as playing against EFL and national league clubs the Young mags are getting to experience many types of games and fixtures that will aid their development and build towards a strong career whether that be at Newcastle or elsewhere.

I will continue to detail all Newcastle results in TWFNU articles and watch any games I can.
