Newcastle United arrive in the beautiful Seefeld area of Austria

Newcastle United have touched down in the picturesque Alpine village of Seefeld, Austria, for a five-day training camp designed to sharpen fitness, foster team chemistry, and prepare for a demanding season ahead. With no matches scheduled during their stay, the focus is firmly on conditioning and tactical drills under the watchful eye of head coach Eddie Howe.

Several senior players, including Bruno Guimarães and Anthony Gordon, were granted an extended break following international commitments and have now rejoined the squad in Austria. Their return brings the group closer to full strength, allowing Howe to begin implementing his plans.

New £55 million signing Anthony Elanga is also part of the travelling party, having watched Newcastle’s behind-closed-doors win over Carlisle last weekend. The Swedish international now has a valuable window to acclimate to his new surroundings, build relationships with other teammates he doesn't know, and absorb Howe’s tactical expectations before the club’s first public friendly against Celtic on Saturday. Elanga’s blistering pace and versatility are expected to add a new dimension to Newcastle’s attack, and Howe will be keen to see how the winger adapts to the club’s high-intensity style during training sessions in Seefeld.

While Howe leads rigorous sessions in Austria, he remains closely involved in Newcastle’s transfer activity. The club is actively pursuing reinforcements, with a striker and goalkeeper high on the priority list. Ideally, Newcastle hope to secure at least another new signing before departing for their Asia tour, which begins with a clash against Arsenal in Singapore on July 27th.

  • July 30: K-League XI (South Korea)

  • August 3: Tottenham (South Korea)

With the Premier League opener against Aston Villa looming on August 16th, Newcastle’s time in Austria marks a crucial phase in their pre-season preparations. The blend of returning internationals, a new arrival, and transfer ambitions sets the stage for a compelling campaign ahead.
