It's Not Just The Keegan Days Newcastle Fans Can Be Proud Of....!

I'm not too sure what frustrates me more as a Newcastle United fan, whether it be pundits and those in the media comparing Rafa Benitez's tactics to Steve Bruce's tactics, or when they keep stating on different platforms that Newcastle Fans expect the 'Keegan Days' back. I've heard David Ginola and Tino Asprilla's name mentioned more times these last few weeks than I've had done when watching highlights of the 95/96 season....

It's no secret that certain segments of the media have been bold enough to claim they know what Newcastle United fans want and expect from their club, which apparently is top six. I can assure the likes of Simon Jordan, Tim Sherwood, Jamie Redknapp and many others that we don't expect those 'Entertainers' days back any time soon. As a 29 year old who sadly wasn't aged enough to appreciate those incredible experiences under Kevin Keegan, I can assure people I had many moments as a fan to smile about whether it be watching both Kenny Daglish and Ruud Gullit taking us to FA Cup Finals, Sir Bobby Robson taking us from the brink of relegation to Champions League football within two seasons, or even watching us compete in the Ueffa Cup (as it was then) under Glenn Roeder and the Europa League under the unpopular Alan Pardew. These are moments I will always remember and moments that should be expected from a club who has achieved this. I believe Newcastle fans expect less than what we deserve from the football club as everyone can keep referring back to the Keegan era as much as they want, but if these personnel in the media decided to dedicate their focus towards an analytical approach rather than a misleading one, they will realize for the last twenty years Newcastle have competed in Europe on five separate occasions - More times than Leicester City, West Ham and Wolves I will add. Having said that as a group of fans all we want is dedication and a plan. Why is it so impossible for a club like Newcastle to try and aim for mid-table, then following from that have a strategy in place for breaking into the top eight. I look at Leicester City who although had that miracle of a season back in 2016, they were put in positions where they had to move on their most important assets such as Riyad Mahrez, N'Golo Kante and Harry Maguire. Since these departures they've had the foresight in that boardroom to recruit well both on and off the pitch and have been a consistent outfit these last five years.

I look at future plans from certain clubs whether it be what Everton are looking to achieve with their stadium and what they achieved with their new training facilities. As a City all we want is the club to show pride and show they're doing things well both on and off the grass. It's no secret that the modern footballer has changed so in order to recruit the best certain amenities need to be advanced and desirable. The club need to improve in all aspects whether it be the staff, the development centers, the youth team and even the appearance of the stadium itself which stands tall on top of the city and holds the 7th highest capacity in the League.

This leads back to those who despite Newcastle for a quarter of the time these last twenty years have represented themselves in Europe, they believe we want too much from the club. We know the source of the issue but it still knocks me for six when these experts of the game can't see that Newcastle is a terribly run football club. This is a football club that having grown up I've had moments of being thrilled, satisfied and proud, but this situation right now I've never been more down since those nine months under Steve McClaren. Two times since 2008 Newcastle United have been relegated and on the verge of a third, yet the media still believe we're the issue......
