My best and worst everything NUFC

Another article inspired by Kyle, I thought I'd talk about my favourite and least favourite things in my time following Newcastle United and I will be keeping it to from my first Toon game in January 2009. Favourite game - 1-0 v Anzhi Makhachkala (14/03/2013) I thought I'd start with my favourite Magpies game and for this one, I'm going to go with the 1-0 win over Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League in March 2013. With the score 0-0 in Russia a week earlier, it had been a

The best NUFC matches since August 1992 (10-6)

In April 2020, myself and my brother, David created our individual lists of ranking our top 100 NUFC matches since August 1992. This series of articles goes through the top 30 from our combined list. The criteria for the rankings in our lists were subjectively about drama, significance, excitement, result and occasion. 10) Newcastle United 4 - 3 Leicester City - Premier League (02/02/1997) Rob: 5th Dave: 20th Alan Shearer scored a dramatic late hat-trick to give Newcastle the

The takeover: who has a future at the club?

With Mike Ashley on the brink of selling our club to the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, a lot of players will be playing for their futures if we can get this season resumed but if we can't, some of them will likely have played their final game for us. So let's take a look at our squad and see who's futures could be affected by the takeover. Starting with the goalkeepers, Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot are coming to the end of their contracts and I don't think a new manag

    Some bullets we've dodged

I know that all the talk is about takeover that looks like it's about to happen but following on from my article about players we forgot signed for us and the one about the top players we were linked with but didn't sign, let's talk about some other players we were linked with, never signed but this time in doing so, dodged a bullet. Luís Boa Morte Despite signing a new contract with Fulham in January 2005, Luís Boa Morte was still interested in a move up north and Graeme Sou

Head to Head records: West Ham

Both teams will be going into Saturday's game with good reason for believing they can take a positive result away from the game as two teams in struggling form go up against each other. A remarkable statistic about this fixture is that we have never played against West Ham outside of the league since the first league meeting in 1923. During this time, records would suggest that they have been fairly evenly matched throughout their respective histories. It was back in December

Rafa Benitez's tenure at Newcastle in review

Following the news that Rafa Benitez is on his way out of Newcastle, I will be reviewing his tenure on Tyneside. This isn't an article I wanted to do now but I will be doing a similar one when Mike Ashley leaves. When Rafa arrived on Tyneside to replace Steve McClaren, the club was on it's knees and sitting 19th despite spending approximately £80m in the two transfer windows. Things didn't start well for the Spaniard though as only one point from his first four games (includi

    2018/19 season review

I'm not going to lie, I really should've done more articles over the season but seeing as there's no articles reviewing the season, I may as well do it myself. It was another difficult summer for us with only around £22.5m spent (not including whatever loan fees we paid for Salomon Rondon and Kenedy), by the time the first pre season game came around, the only new face was Ki Sung-yueng on a free transfer from Swansea City whilst Mikel Merino left for Real Sociedad after his

Head to Head records: Away v West Ham

The evening kick off on Saturday will see us up against a West ham side who only narrowly lost to Man City at the Etihad in midweek. Despite West Ham's comfortable 3-0 win against us back in December, we do still possess a good record, especially in recent years against the Hammers. Our form over the past six weeks has placed us in the higher ranks of the form table thanks to one defeat in the last six matches, winning four of those in the process. In addition, we have only l

Magpie Group: It's not a decision which has been taken lightly!

The Magpie Group are starting to step up their protests against Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, with plans in place to show the Sports Direct owner what the fans think of him, but this time inside St James’ park. The plan from the group is to stage an 11 minute walk-in during the West Ham game on December 1st, where the group are asking fans to take their seats on the 11th minute in protest of the 11 years Ashley has been in charge. There is also the continued protests outside t

    2017/18 season review

The first players to leave us in the summer were Vurnon Anita, Sammy Ameobi, Lubomir Satka and Haris Vuckic, who were all released at the end of their contracts. It took a while to make our first signing as Florian Lejeune finally arrived from Eibar on 4 July whilst Graham Carr left his role as chief scout and Matz Sels joined Anderlecht on loan. Later that week, we were linked with wingers Sheyi Ojo, Jesus Navas, Adama Traore and Jacob Murphy and the latter was signed from N
