The Week For Newcastle United 17

A Disappointing week for all our teams on the pitch this week as we had only 1 draw to show for those wearing the Newcastle United badge this week.

The weekend started on Friday afternoon as Newcastle Under 21s drew away at Sunderland Under 21s 1-1 in the premier league 2. The result was an improvement on the other derby result against Middlesbrough but not enough to lift the on the pitch mood for the under 21s in what’s been a difficult season in all competitions.

The Under 18s also lost their first game of 2026 at home to Liverpool and with a big FA Youth cup tie against Palace coming up tomorrow (Who were top of the Southern section until this past weekend) and a game against leaders of the U18s Premier League North Manchester City to follow, there is a concern that what has started as an excellent season for the U18s could drift away.

Here are Josh’s thoughts on the current state of the academy since the takeover.

The Lasses FA Cup run comes to an end.

Newcastle United women were comprehensively beaten by WSL side West Ham United women. Until West Ham slotted in their penalty in the first half, I felt it was quite and even game, and we held our own quite well but in the second half you could see the difference in class between the two divisions. It remains to be seen whether a short cup run works in our favour for the league campaign.

Here is Dale’s thoughts on the game.

The Lasses have been busy off the pitch making two new signings for the 1st team. Kaitlyn Torpey arrives to bolster up our defence. She comes in with a lot of experience and is a fellow Aussie to link up with our manager.

Torpey has been joined by Swedish forward Emilia Larrson who has history playing with two fan favourites Oona and Tamminen.

The lasses are back in League action this Sunday as we are away against top of the league Charlton. It looks a daunting prospect with the Addicks flying in the league unbeaten, only 5 goals conceded plus they are on the back of a 10-0 win the FA Cup.

Until we can beat Charlton my mind will always be on “That 3-3” last season but if we aspire of automatic promotion surely this would have to be a game we get something in. Granted following Charlton we play 2 of the bottom 3 in February but mentally I think there may be a shift in expectations if we lose this game.

Woeful with Wolves

Being confident about getting an away result this season is a dangerous mindset with Newcastle this season but as I looked at our head-to-head with Wolves and despite their slight upturn their still massively off it in the league. Although there are no easy premier league games, I felt even if we turned up at 75% of our quality as a team that would have been enough to beat Wolves. It was a massive, missed opportunity in my opinion especially with the games we have coming up. (Which I will go on to shortly)

Here are Joe’s thoughts on the Wolves game.

Let’s presume the scenario that we will be in the play off round in the Champions league. That mean’s there will be eight (8!!!) matches in the shortest month of the year.

That in itself is crazy enough but then factor in that five of the games are away from home and will be in 4 different competitions so if we can qualify in those top eight positions of the Champions that extra midweek time could make an incredible difference.

Here are Lees thoughts on the Champions League.

North Sheild’s advance in the FA Vase

North Shields were victorious in the FA Vase and move onto a last 16 tie with Coventry United. If you haven’t seen the North Shields vlog yet got check that out because it is a lively one.

Other NFTV Focussed Non-League side Ryton had a brilliant week beating sides in 2nd and 4th in the league and the chance of reaching the play-offs and (And a potential NFTV derby next season)

And finally, for the Nothing to do with Northern football section of the non-league round up, Cirencester Town won 5-1 with top scorer Price getting a hat trick to take him 9 clear at the top of the scoring charts.
