Everton vs Newcastle United Match Preview

Updated: Mar 17, 2022

After the Magpies suffered a devastating loss at the hands of Chelsea and VAR on Sunday, focus must now turn to Goodison Park as Newcastle face Everton.

It’s a tale of two sides who are heading in opposite direction as Newcastle, baring last weekends defeat to Chelsea, were unbeaten in eight games and are currently nine points clear of the relegation zone. Everton on the other hand are in 17th place after a poor run of results but are level on points with 18th placed Watford. The Toffees have lost eight of their last nine premier league fixtures after their defeat at the weekend to Wolverhampton Wanderers. They have also failed to score in their last four top flight fixtures.

Everton have not beaten Newcastle on their home turf since April 2018. The Magpies won the reverse fixture 3-1 just over a month ago which takes it to three Premier League victories in a row against The Toffees, the last time Newcastle won four in a row against them was between 1989-1995.

Everton Team News: Frank Lampard will be without defender Kenny after he was sent off against the defeat to Wolves, Michael Keane could take his place. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is doubtful for this match as he recovers from an illness. Dele Alli could return to the line up. Anthony Gordon, Richarlison and Demarai Grey will be hoping to find their goalscoring form to escape the rut they find themselves in.

Newcastle Team News: Eddie Howe will have to made a late call on Joelinton as he recovers from a groin injury. Joe Willock is expected to be named in the match day squad after his illness bout. Jonjo Shelvey is still out. Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff are expected to hold their spots in the starting eleven.

Sutty’s Match Prediction: I genuinely can’t see how Everton can get a result against the Magpies in this match when both sides are on two different trajectories. Newcastle were unlucky to lose against Chelsea after a good performance so I expect them to get their revival back on track by coming away with the three points against a lacklustre Everton side. My Full Time score prediction being Everton 0 Newcastle United 2.
